This privacy policy informs you of how the Build Better Lives Campaign collects, uses and protects your personal data.

Which data do we collect?

Website visitors: IP-addresses and information about your web browser, operating system and/or device.

Petition signatories: your full first and last names, email address, country of residence. These are necessary on the basis of our legitimate interest in gathering support for the campaign under Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

For staying informed about the campaign and other related climate issues (petition signatories): your first name and email address. We will use the personal data of the supporters that consent to further contact under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR in order to keep them updated about our work.

Optionally, you may also provide your postal code, and a statement of support.

Purposes of collecting personal data

Climate Action Network Europe is processing your personal data for the following purpose: to provide you with information on campaigns and relevant political updates provided you have given your consent to be contacted) and (for signatories of the petition) to submit your signature to political decision makers.

The recipients (receivers) of your personal data

Your personal data is stored by Climate Action Network Europe. However, they may also be disclosed to our employees or service providers only upon our request, following our instructions and excluding any other use.

The petition data processor

CAN Europe has a signed data processing agreement in place with a not-for-profit software provider, Fix The Status Quo (“FTSQ”), to act as data processor for the petition. The data will be stored by FTSQ on their secure server in Germany.

The transfer of personal data outside the European Union

Personal data can only be transmitted outside the European Union to countries applying a data protection policy corresponding to the one in effect in the European Union.  For petition signatories: When you sign the petition, your data will be encrypted and transferred to a secure server in Germany. Non of your data will be transferred outside the European Union.

The storage period and deletion of your personal data

The personal data collected will be kept for as long as necessary to achieve the different purposes. Once the objectives have been achieved, they will be deleted.

The protection of personal data

Climate Action Network Europe is committed to protecting your personal data from unauthorized access and manipulation through organizational and technical measures. Your personal data are treated in complete confidentiality by the persons authorised to do so and only for achieving the required purpose.

However, you should be aware that nowadays, there is a real risk of leaks of personal data.

In the event of an accidental or malicious leak, and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Climate Action Network Europe undertakes to notify the problem directly to the Data Protection Authority.

Your rights regarding your personal data

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is effective since May 2018 in Belgium, stipulates that when using your personal data, you have certain rights at any times:

  • Right to erase your data

  • Right to data portability

  • Right to access your data

  • Right to rectify your data

  • Right to restrict processing

  • Right of opposition
